How to Wear a Pussybow Blouse
I know what you're thinking, its way to early for the "p" word - and I couldn't agree more. However, when referring to fashion and kittens, it's totally acceptable - at least I hope it is. The technical term for the type of blouse I'm wearing, is a "Pussybow Blouse", which is a retro designed, identified by the bow tied at the neck, much like the bows that used to be tied around kittens neck back in the day - hence the name. The pussybow blouse was originally made popular in the 1940's, starting with Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent and then by the 1960's, this feminine style had found its way into the homes of many american women.
With feminine styles of the rise the last couple of years, this style is back and I for one have no complaints. What is great about this style is that you can really make it your own by tying the bow in different ways.
- Tied up tight and proper
- Tied loose with a button or two undone
- Completely lose with 2-3 buttons undone
- Untied (depending on the length of your fabric)
My favorite is #2, tied loose, with a button or two undone, as seen in today's post. It's pulled together but not too stuffy and seems to work perfectly with the look of this particular outfit.
Keep in mind, that when wearing a style like this, you want to keep your accessories simple. A small chain necklace or none at all will do and add a pop lip and your good to go.
