A green juice a day...

DSC_0117 As the weekend comes to an end and we start a full five day work week after two 4 days weeks in a row, I thought I would share with you my go to green juice recipe to get you pumped for the week ahead.  For those not currently following me on Instagram, let me fill you in on a not so secret, secret,  I love my green juice!  So much so that I MUST have one once a day (even when traveling).  Sometimes I switch up the recipe, but you better believe there will always be a nice healthy serving of either spinach or kale.

Fallon's Daily Green Juice:

2-3 Large Handfuls of Spinach

1/2 Cucumber

1 Green Apple

1/2" piece of Ginger (peel the outer area)

1 Lemon (remove the peel but keep the white pith)

2-3 Stalks of Celery (optional)

Add all of the above ingredients to your juicer individually, in the order listed above.  Will make approx. 12-16oz. Once completed stir in 1 tbsp. chia seeds and enjoy!

Slide3Now in case you are a little hesitant about trying green juice, let me share a few of the many health benefits, hopefully enticing you to give it a try...

Cucumber: Diuretic;  high in water content, moderate sources of Vitamin A, iron, and potassium.

Spinach: Anticancer, improves memory, antioxidant, promotes healing, anti-cartaracts, anti-anemia;  one of only 4 vegetables that are high in Vitamin E.  Good source of calcium, iron, protein, and potassium.

Celery:  Anit-cancer; 2-4 stalks per day can lower your blood pressure.  I always add last so I can add or subtract based on the container/cup I'm filling for the day.

The three magic indigents in any green juice are lemon, apple, & ginger; these three together making any veggie delicious!

Lemons: Antioxient, anticancer... eating citrus with your greens also helps to absorb their iron.

Apple: Cleanses the system, lowers blood cholestoral levels, keep blood sugar level up, and aid digestion.  Good source of Vitaman A and also contain vitamin B and C, and riboflavin.  The greener the apple the better the taste!

Ginger: Anti-nausea, relieves headaches, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and just plain yummy...

TIP:  Always start with the Spinach, since it is the hardest to juice, then I add the cucumber and apple, as they help the juice from the spinach make its way to my cup.

I use the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer to make my juices.  My love bought it for me last year and after daily use, its still going strong! Not too loud and pretty easy to clean.  TIP:  Reuse plastic grocery bags to line the disposal bucket.

The last step is to add a spoonful of chia seeds! Yes, as in chi-chi-chi-chia... lol.  But seriously chia seeds are amazing for you.  Give them a try... in your juice, on your salad, add to your pancake mix, the possibilities are endless.

Now that you know how good a green juice a day is for you, let me add one last point, their actually really yummy too!  Don't let the color scare you.  If your new to green juice, add more apple and lemon, the taste will be a little sweeter, but you'll still benefit from all the awesomeness that is going green!

Happy Monday!
