Four Ways to Wear Denim Cut Off Shorts
I’ve always had a love hate relationship with denim shorts, especially since even when I was much smaller without all the baby weight, I’ve always had more muscular thighs, so finding the right fit has always been tough.
These days I prefer a nice high waist, loose around the thighs, not too short that my booty is showing, but also not too long that my already short legs look shorter.
Recently I found a pair at H&M that actually fit all of these requirements. I did have to go up a size, which I usually do with H&M bottoms, so I snagged these denim shorts in a size 10 (I’m typically a 6/8 these days).

Now once you find the perfect pair of denim shorts (or at least a pair that checks most of the boxes, styling shorts can be hard, but not impossible. For everyday, I like to add structured pieces to my shorts to make it feel more like an outfit and less like I’m on vacation. I pulled together four looks for you, all featuring affordable pieces, many of which you probably already own, but if not I linked to them below as well.
Head over to Instagram stories to see these pieces in action…
Look 1: Pair your cut off denim shorts with a colorful jacket from old navy, a basic white t-shirt, striped sneakers (if you’re a half size, size up) for a fun twist and finish the look with my go-to stylish backpack. Prescription glasses via BonLook.
Look 2: Pair your cut off denim shorts with a long sleeve button up, roll the sleeves and tie the bottom at your waist. Add a trendy knotted headband (comes in a bunch of colors and is markdown to under $10) and slip on slides (mine are an old pair from Nordstrom’s Rack) and your good to go.
Look 3: For an easy transition outfit pair your cut off denim shorts with cognac booties, a striped t-shirt and camo jacket. Camo / army green are so good for transitional weather, perfect for Spring and Fall. Top the look off with your favorite hat and your set.
Look 4: (I think this look is my favorite)… I love a denim shorts paired with a blazer and this look is the perfect combo with the added linen top, metallic slides and an easy structured bag, mine is from Street Level, but I can’t find this exact style online. Prescription glasses via BonLook.
