After becoming a mom, I realized the importance of routine for both the kids and for myself. Now three+ years into becoming a mom, I’m still working on perfecting our routines around here (will the ever be perfect, probably not) but for the past six months or so I have been working on creating both morning and night routines for myself, which has been a game change..

Today, I want to share with you what I have be doing for my evening routine. I’m not going to included washing my face, brushing my teeth etc., this is more a list of things that helps me to unwind at the end of the day, destress (I know we all can use this), clear my mind and prep for the following day.

Evening Routine

To unwind, clear my mind and prep for the following day.

Essential Oils

I diffuse essential oils throughout our home on a daily basis. In the evenings I like to use Lavender, Roman Chamomile, or different blends. It’s amazing how much smells can effect your overall mood and mindset. About an hour before I’m ready to go to bed, I set up my diffuser in my bedroom to help me unwind from the day and prepare for a good nights sleep.

CALM

In the past a cup of tea was always my go to in the evening, but for the past year now, I have been reaching for CALM by Natural Vitality to help me relax at the end of the day and to also make sure I am getting the recommended amount of magnesium in my diet each day. I originally started taking CALM to help with my restless leg during pregnancy and haven’t stopped taking it since. Free Samples from Natural Vitality: CLICK HERE

Journaling

Keeping a journal to clear my mind each night, by writing out my thoughts has been a game changer. I’m not as consistent as I would like to be, but I notice a huge difference when I am. Sometimes I write paragraphs, other times its just a list. The number one thing that has helped me with consistency is letting go on perfection and just using my journal as a tool to clear my head at the end of the day, what every comes out as my pens hits the paper, I just go with it.

Review Calendar / Goals

Reviewing my calendar and goals each day is a must! While I must admit, when life gets crazy, this is the first to go I notice quickly how much it effects my productivity and my overall mindset, so it’s something I try to prioritize. I have never been someone to keep a calendar, until last year. In 2018, I used both a written calendar and a goal setting calendar the entire year and accomplished more in that one year than I had in a while.

Reading

We have always been readers in my family, but after becoming a mom myself and having not one but two little ones, reading moved further and further down my to-do list and well sleep took priority. Last year I decided I wanted to get back into reading and make it a priority, since I really do enjoy it. So what I did was turned it into a habit, keeping the phrase “progress not perfection” at the front of my mind. Fast forward to now and reading had now become a part of my evening routine. Some nights I read more than others, but I make sure to at least get in 10 min of reading each night and it has made a huge difference in clearing my mind at the end of the day and going to be bed with a positive mindset.
