1920's Jazz Age Lawn Party While Pregnant
A few weeks ago (early June), my hubby + I attended the Jazz Age Lawn Party for our 4th year in a row–our first year as an almost family of three. Now I will say, it wasn't exactly the best idea on the one of our hottest days this summer, while 6+ months pregnant, but it was worth it.
My favorite part about the Jazz Age Lawn Party, is getting to dress up + step back in time. How wonderful it would've been to be able to experience the Gatsby-era... this yearly event at least gives us New Yorker's the opportunity to day-dream a little.
While I was putting together my look for this year, it occurred to me that there really isn't any photos of pregnant woman from that era or really any of the eras that we like to look back on + pretend we were a part of. The earliest I can think of actually seeing a photo would probably be the sixties or seventies (still not to many), but even then a baby bump was something that was more covered up, than celebrated.
Today, that is not the case (thankfully). As awkward as it can feel at times to be pregnant, I feel my best + most confident when showing off my bump + I'm happy to be preggers in an era that celebrates that + even happier that ASOS happened to have this dress that was perfect for the occasion.
All in all, we had a wonderful afternoon, filled with ferry rides, picnics, people watching + a little dancing with this handsome fella below... (he's such a good sport)!
Each year, the Jazz Age Lawn Party takes place two weekends (June + August) on Governors Island, so even if you missed the June party, there is still a chance to experience it this summer. The next one is August 15th/16th... Get your tickets here!
