Someone's going to be a big brother...
Breaking the news to Frankie (my pup of almost 8 years) was not easy. He's the kind dog that like to feel like he's in control. I mean, can you blame him? For almost four years, he was the only man in his mommy's life + the man of the house for almost six. However, he's pretty intuitive (as most dogs are) + from the moment we moved into a two bedroom apartment, he knew that something was up.
So I sat him down... well to be specific, I picked him up (which is the only real way to get his attention) + it went a little something like this...
Mom (me): Frankie, guess what?
Furbaby (Frankie): <ignores mom>
Mom (me): Frankie!!!
Furbaby (Frankie): Geez... what do you want mom?
Mom (me): I've got some very exciting news to share with you.
Furbaby (Frankie): Hurry up, I don't have all day... plus have you realize how cold it is out here?
Mom (me): I know, I know... but is really important + I wanted to take you out for a walk (your favorite activity) to share the news with you.
Furbaby (Frankie): Okay, fine. What's the big news? I've got places to pee on + naps to take.
Mom (me): Well, Frankie... You're going to be a BIG brother!
Furbaby (Frankie): Blank stare (see above)
Mom (me): Frankie, did you hear me... I said, you're going to be a big brother!
Furbaby (Frankie): <pauses for a minute, then tail starts wagging...>
Furbaby (Frankie): <kisses on kisses> A big brother mom, really? I'm so excited! What kind of puppy are we getting???
Mom (me): <hysterically laughing> No honey, not another puppy. A real baby. Mommy + Daddy are going to have a baby
Furbaby (Frankie): Oh, I get it... like that time Sofia, my baby cousin stayed with us. Cool!
Mom (me): Yes honey. Except this time the baby will stay for good.
Furbaby (Frankie): <pondering in his head... wow this is really happen> I'M GOING TO BE A BIG BROTHER!
