As we get closer to the official start of winter, layers are a must, especially here in NYC with the recent snow we've been getting.  When it comes to layers, you want to take it piece by piece, keeping in mind, each individual piece should be light weight, so that as you layer, you gain warmth without adding bulk. I started with a simple gray chasmere sweater dress, adding a flannel, then topping with a fur vest. For the bottom, bare legs are not an option at the moment, so I went with my ombre tights, that I picked up in Paris.  It's hard to tell in the pic, but they go from black to a maroon to burgundy to deep dark red. Then, in the spirt of the "layering challenge" this week, I decried to take my layering up a notch and added over the knee stripped socks, scrunched down, and then finished it off with my mary jane pumps and my olive green anorak.

This look was comfortable, casual/cool, and pulled together in a effortless way.  Of course, I slipped into my snow boots, for trekking through the city, and added a massive scarf, but other than yet, this looked work perfectly, and helped me brave the every changing elements.
