How to wear a trapeze slip dress

Hi there, stranger! Usually, if I miss a day or two here on the blog, I don't bother apologizing, as I'm sure you don't even notice, but a whole week + I've got some explaining to do.  I have a good excuse, I swear... really I have two.

For one, I started the year super sick.  I actually had a cold during both of our trips at the end of the year (Puerto Rico + California), but it came back with avenges when we arrived back in the NY.  I think it was a combination of the travel, the stress I'd been under associated with changing careers, the lack of sleep... you name it.  Nevertheless, I spent most of the week sleeping, rehydrating + medicating.  Not to mention, I started my new job last Monday (officially), which left little time for me to catch up.  So I apologize for my unplanned, week-long hiatus, I hope you forgive me!

The good news, is that I now feel 100% healthy, meaning I can finally start working out again.  I've been easing into yoga the past couple of months, with plans to step it up in the new year.  Ever since my foot injury, I haven't been the same, but I'm no longer letting that be an excuse.  I'm pretty excited about starting Kayla Itsines BBG next week.  If you're not following her on Instagram, then you're missing out - she is a powerhouse fitness trainer from Australia, that I have a minor obsession with.

As for today's look... Yesterday, I popped into EXPRESS after a client appointment + was instantly drawn to this plaid slip dress.  First off, I must preface this by saying, I have seen some amazing pieces floating around the web from EXPRESS lately, but I personally haven't shopped there since high school, so it was kinda fun to step back into a place that was once somewhere I frequented often.  But boy, has EXPRESS changed.  When did they start focusing so heavily on club wear? lol

However, changes aside, EXPRESS still has some amazing pieces.  What I loved about this dress was the sheer fabric and the color, but the shape (trapeze) was not something that typically looked good on my curvy petite frame.

Once I tried this dress on, I was pleasantly surprised.  With a loose fitting shape, you want to make sure that the fabric is extra flowy - which will help you feel like you're not wearing a tent.  Also, adding a blazer or cropped leather jacket, like I did, helps to add shape to the look.
