Finding Sage // Have the Courage to Ask

courage It's a rainy, dreary day here in new york. Today is one of those days when I wish I would just stay home and curl up on the couch with a good book, like this one (which I know I'm late on), and warm cup of tea... but alas, duty calls and I'm off to work, but not without sharing a little message that has been inspiring me lately.

It's been a few weeks, since the last "finding sage" post, making this well overdue.  But honestly, I like to let the frequency of this series flow naturally, as that's what it's all about... finding myself through daily inspiration and sharing with you my thoughts along the way.  Everyday, every moment is inspiring to me in some way, shape, or form, but I'm not always inspired to write about them. But I can tell you this, when the inspiration strikes, I will be sure to share it.

Let's take the quote above, for example, which has been speaking to me on repeat for weeks now.

In life there are many paths you can take.  Some paths are laid out in front of you, and the only effort needed on your part is to accept them, while others require more work, persistence, and courage.

I consider myself to be a pretty courageous person, I mean you would have to be to move across the country without a job, to a place you have never even visited, without knowing a soul, and with no amount of money saved... yep, I did that. But when it comes to having the courage to ask for what I want, I often times fall short.  I find that I get what I want in life, eventually, through hard work and trial and error, but there our times I could have gotten to my end goal more efficiently, by simply having the courage to ask for what I want.  And I'm sure there are things I'm missing out on as well by not having the courage to ask.

Oprah is right "you get in life what you have the courage to ask for".  What is it that I am so afraid of, that many times instead of taking the direct path and asking for what I want, I choose to take the long, hard, unknown path, and hope I get the end result I'm looking for. I know exactly what it is, the fear of rejection.  Rejection is not an easy thing to deal with, but it is a way of life, and learning how to deal with it and how to grow and be motivated by it, is key to future success.  Courage is a big part of this.  You have to have the courage to ask for the things you want, without fear, knowing that the worse response you can get, is "no".

This is something I'm working on which is why this quote is so inspiring to me.

Maybe this is something you deal with as well and if so, I hope this quote and the fact that you're not alone, has given you a little bit a courage, on this dreary morning.  Or maybe this is something you're good out, and if so, please share your secrets in the comment section below.

Either way, life is a journey and today gives us another opportunity to improve and move forward. So today, I challenge you (really I challenge myself), to have a little courage and to not  be afraid to ask for the things you want.  The worst thing that could happen, is you hear "no"... and then, you just ask again the next day.
