Entering a new decade... Turning 30!
Last year, on my last birthday in my 20's, I reflected on all that I had accomplished thus far. Looking back at that post makes tremendously happy. My 30 years on this earth, with their ups + downs have been amazing and I couldn't have asked for better.
Now I stand here, on my 30th birthday, a day I have waited for, forever - looking ahead to not only a new decade but a completely new adventure. Today is my last day at Michael Kors and boy has it been one heck of a ride. I started at Michael Kors over 7.5 years ago and created something spectacular over the years, something that I will forever be proud of. For that reason, today is going to be one of the hardest days of my career.
Funny story... back with I was 25-ish an intern of mine (who now works with me) asked me where I saw myself in 5 years. I told her that I wasn't exactly sure, but I knew that the career path I was on (working in Visual Merchandising and dabbling in training at the time) was one that I fell into + was good at and happened to love. For those reasons, I knew that I wanted to work as hard as possible + work my way up to being a Director before the age of 30 (mission accomplished), then quit + start a whole new career (in the making).
Then I told her, I have so many passions I want to make sure I give myself the opportunity to explore them. She looked at me like I was crazy as any 18 year old intern would. But the thing is, I did exactly what I envisioned I would over 5 years ago.
The moral of the story is, don't be afraid to dream a crazy dream + with handwork, talent, + passion... you CAN achieve it!
So many mixed emotions have been playing out in my head over the the past couple of weeks. While I'm excited for what is ahead for me, I'm sad to leave behind what I have built and my team + (if we're being honest) I'm a little scared for the future.
But you know what they say, "If your dreams don't scare you, then they're not big enough".
I have always been a risk taker + I don't plan on changing anytime soon.
For those of you that I'm sure are dying to know what's next for me... I will be sharing more details in the new year, so hang tight.
Here's to new beginnings, in more ways than one! And with that, I'm signing off... to enjoy my last day + my birthday and the weekend... then jetting off to Italy Sunday night to continue the celebration. I have a few post lined up while I'm gone but make sure you follow along on Instagram for the real excitement. @sageandsparkle
