When we moved to Jersey City, my oldest was able to start Pre-K rather quickly. Since we moved half way through the school year, we weren't sure if we would be able to get him in, but we called the school district anyways. We called on a Monday, were asked to come in Tuesday to fill out paperwork and the following morning he was on the bus for his first day of school, ever! It was a whirlwind to say the least and since I was already overwhelmed with our move, we decided to go with school provided lunches to make the transition as easy as possible on all of us.

Jayden went to school for five months last year and loved every minute of it. He’s beyond excited to start back up this week, but the one thing we are trying differently this time around, is I plan to make Jaydens lunches for him to take to school. He’s excited to have some of the goodies that a few of his friends had for lunch and I’m excited for the creativity that packing lunches brings. I’m not going to lie, it was so easy just sending him to school with little prep work required, but I am also very excited about this new routine. Ask me in a month or so how I feel…

How I’m getting prepared:

  1. Research places like Pinterest are great for finding fun creative kid lunch ideas. I personally find that being creative with the presentation, keeps it fun for me too.

  2. Stock up on packaged snacks from Walmart and Walmart.com. I love that I can easily get some of our favorites, in bulk and at a great price.

  3. Buy the essentials (we listed our favorites below) and involve your kiddo in the process.
