Well ladies, we have come to the end of my second pregnancy! I know what you’re think… Hold up, already?!?! 40 seriously, I find myself thinking those exact same thoughts at least once a day. How I’m already 40 weeks pregnant is beyond me. I’m finally getting around to finishing this post at 2am on my due date (because I have all this energy now and can’t sleep). Maybe that’s sign that baby is coming??? Or maybe it’s just because I took an almost 2hr nap in the middle of the day? Who knows… The photos in this post are from a few weeks ago, so this is really a 37-40 week update. Tomorrow, I will have my 40 week appointment to see how things are moving along, provided I’m not already in labor.
40 Weeks. Baby is the size of… well, as you can see, baby is BIG!
About the size of a watermelon, so they say. (Although, he’s measuring much bigger)
Knock on wood, I’ve been pretty lucky in this department lately (and with this pregnancy in general). I’ve experience minimal back pain. The back pain I do experience comes late at night and really just seems to be a result of carrying a big ‘ol belly around all day.
DIET / CRAVINGS:
Nothing out of the ordinary the last couple weeks. I’ve been drinking tons of Raspberry Leaf Tea, in preparation for labor and have been loving my Third Trimester Arnold Palmer recipe. Some of the foods that continue to be at the top of my list are cheese, eggs and crispy kale. I’m also still pretty obsessed with Le Croix… but who isn’t these days.
BODY / WEIGHT GAIN:
Surprisingly, I’ve only gained 30.6 pounds so far (which you would never guess with the size of this belly). Now, by 10 months post party with Jayden I still had about 10-15 lbs to lose, so I was starting at a higher weight to begin with, but with Jayden I gained 60lbs! So as you can imagine, I’m trilled that I’ve only gained half the amount of weight. While I know the most important part of pregnancy is not how much or how little you gain but rather how healthy your baby is, 30lbs is so much easier to deal with on my small frame compared to 60lb. The crazy thing is, I haven’t done anything different this time around. Actually, I take that back, I haven’t exercised as much and I while I’ve tried to eat mostly healthy, I’ve indulged when cravings hit too. Like I’ve said in all my past pregnancy update, the majority of my early weight gain for my first pregnancy was due to the fact that my thyroid medication was out of wack.
Speaking of thyroid, just recently I found out that my level have skyrocketed, which is concerning, especially being so close to giving birth, when I know taking care of myself will be difficult. The past three weeks, I’ve been trying to find a new endocrinologist to look at and adjust my medication, but it hasn’t be an easy task. Hopefully we will have things in check in the next week or so. Also my B-12 levels recently dropped, even though I’ve been getting monthly B-12 shots, so for the past month, I’ve switched to weekly.
All in all, I’m feeling pretty great, even with my due date being TOMORROW! I have experience some lower back pain, but it’s been very minimal. For my back pain, I’ve been using essential oils, specifically the Deep Blue blend from DoTerra mixed with fractionated coconut oil. My hips have been sore, but I think they’re just spreading a bit, in anticipation for all that is too come. And obviously, this belly is pretty heavy and gets in the way, sitting for long periods of time can be difficult, but nothing that a nice walk or bounce on the yoga ball can’t solve. Oh and the best part, I’ve had very minimal swelling–nothing at all like the swelling I experience with Jayden, proving why late Spring due dates are far better than late Summer ones.
In the last few weeks of my pregnancy, I have been continuing to live in form fitting dresses that show off my ever growing bump. I’ve also been loving my boyfriend jeans from Ingrid & Isabel and wearing my maternity overalls from H&M on repeat. I haven’t bought anything new lately as I know this huge bump wont be here for long, so instead I’ve been focusing on new ways to wear what I have. I added this super cute accessory to my jacket that was custom made by Mignonne Gavigan at the Wellrounded Unshower event last month. The DIY charm pins were actually intended to be stroller charms, but I really loved the idea of adding it to my denim jacket and I’ve kept it on ever since.
