Thirteen weeks have passed since my first (and only) pregnancy update. 13 weeks!!! So much for a monthly update… Well, I’m sure by now you’re wondering, what in the heck have I been up too? Let’s see… taking care of a growing (ie. crazy) 18 month old toddler, fighting off a few colds, MAJOR spring cleaning (also known as “nesting”), and growing a baby. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve at least got to see the bump grow into what it is today and I’ve also shared a few informal updates here and there. Plus, there’s insta stories (which I love and updated daily). With all that said, I still can’t believe thirteen weeks have passed since I shared a pregnancy update here–it seriously feels like that was just three, maybe four weeks ago.
WELL BETTER LATE THAN NEVER…
33 WEEKS. BABY IS THE SIZE OF A PINEAPPLE.
Still no swelling (praise, Jesus!)… I have to tell you, in my opinion Spring is the PERFECT time to have a baby–you’re pregnant in every season BUT summer–what could be better than that?!?
Most of the hair loss/breakage that I experienced post pregnancy the first go around, has grown back by now and my hair continues to get thicker with this pregnancy. I’m overdue for a haircut… gotta freshen up my ends and also my color before #2 arrives.
For the past 13 weeks, my nose was clear and I was feeling pretty good, then last week, the nasal congestion returned, but not nearly as bad as I had it for most of 2nd trimester. Acne is back. It’s not terrible, but I’ve broken out around my chin area and on my forehead. It’s small little bumps, but still annoying.
I mentioned last time how I had terrible upper back pain most of my first pregnancy and while it still is NOTHING like that, I have experienced back pain the past couple of weeks, but not consistently like with pregnancy number one. I caved and bought a pregnancy pillow (the snoogle) which I had with my first pregnancy and used A LOT but by the end it was so flat I just tossed it. I’m so glad I got another one though, since it really is a lifesaver at this stage in the game, especially when it comes to sleep.
Then there is the mood swings, oh the mood swings. Sadly, they haven’t got any better and dare I say it, at times are worst, but I’m working through it and my husband is hanging in there (God, bless him), even though he still doesn’t fully understand.
I’ve been eating mostly healthy, I would say 80% of the time and indulging about 20%. I’m a full believe that pregnant or not, you shouldn’t deny yourself something that you want, I’m just a little more forgiving with myself while pregnant. Most meals consist of yogurt, oatmeal, baked chicken, fish, quiona, veggie pasta, sweet potatoes (and regular potatoes too), green smoothies, kale, spinach, rice and beans (I’m married to a Puerto Rican, what do you expect) and chia seeds added to at least one meal a day. All in all, that’s what my diet looks like, with all of the below yummy cravings mixed in for good measure (wink, wink).
Some of the things I’ve been craving: I’m still craving Amy’s Organic Mac & Cheese with Crispy Kale (it’s basically my pregnancy staple) and now instead of Ginger Ale, I’m all about the Le Croix. I’ve been missing my Black Bean Taquitos from Trader Joes’s, but that’s only because I haven’t been in awhile. Van’s Blueberry Gluten Free Waffles are amazing. Eggs have also still be a big craving for me, fried, boiled, scrambled, you name it–I love them all. Oh, I must not forget fluffy pancakes and Annie’s Organic Cinnamon Rolls (which are incredible), both of these breakfast treats have been big cravings for me. And then since Easter candy has hit the shelves, I’ve been craving the marshmallow and caramel chocolate covered eggs from Russell Stover–so incredibly delicious!
Still taking the same prenatals daily, something I haven’t stopped doing since pregnancy #1, along with 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C, thyroid medication, and monthly B-12 shots.
Body: When we last touched base, the bump had just arrived… well now it is front and center and HUGE! They say that you show sooner with your second pregnancy, but for me that wasn’t entirely true. I started showing around the same time, but since then… my stomach did grow and really POP at a much faster rate. So in that regard, I guess the saying is true… it just didn’t initially happen earlier for me but the progression happened much faster. My boobs are still about the same, but that was typical for me with Jayden too. It wasn’t until my milk came in that they really grew. Plus, I’m still breast feeding, so they never exactly went back to their original small size but also are not super oversized as they were when I first started breastfeeding.
Weight Gain: 23lbs–that’s what I’ve gained thus far. Which means, that since I last updated you, 13 weeks ago, I’ve gained an additional 15lbs. I know I still have 6-7 weeks to go, but I’m so happy with the weight gain this time around. I still have yet to hit the weight gain I had at 20 weeks (which was 25lbs in case you forgot) when I was pregnant with Jayden. So what’s my secret? I don’t have one. I haven’t done anything differently, with the exception of not working out as much. Yes, you read that correctly, I actually stopped working out around 20ish weeks this time around, as I honestly I just don’t have the time or energy. I still of course fit in a little yoga here and there and stretch daily and I’m constantly running after Jayden and having daily dance parties, so it’s not like I’ve been sitting on my butt or anything. My eating habits are about the same too. Actually, if I’m being honest, I think they may be worst this time around, just because some of my cravings have been junk food (I’m looking at you Flaming Hot Cheetos a major craving the 1st and 2nd trimester) when my biggest cravings with Jayden was red meat and broccoli. I still fully credit the fact that my weight gain has been better this time around to keeping my thyroid in check, staying on top of my B-12 shots as best as possible and the fact that it’s not summer, therefor I’m not retain nearly as much water. Only time will tell how much I gain over the next 6-7 weeks (which is when the bulk happens anyways) but the fact that I’m doing better than last time, makes me so happy. The funny part is… I feel like my stomach looks bigger than last time though, even though I haven’t gained nearly as much, which is a whole different story.
Maternity jeans are still my jam! I’ve been trying out quite a few brands, because I really want to share with all of you the best maternity jeans in a range of price points, but sadly, I haven’t found a whole lot that I like on the lower end of the scale. AG maternity jeans are still my favorite for both fit and comfort. I’m also really like the look of a pair I recently got from Pink Blush but the one down fall is that the attached belly band doesn’t stay put. So with that sad, the search continues. Before I’m done with this pregnancy or maybe soon after, I will share my top picks of maternity jeans with you, once I try a few more and hopefully find a few gems at a great price point.
